Setting realistic expectations is more critical now than ever.
Every day I see headlines about container ships, computer chips, toilet paper, and even Christmas toys. Demand has outpaced available supply, and our transportation infrastructure is overwhelmed.
Everyone is affected by these supply-chain challenges.
We've definitely felt the impact locally on recent projects:
AV equipment that used to ship within a few days or weeks now shows a deliverable date of several months, at best.
Antennas for life-safety systems are backordered 7 weeks or more.
Prices jumped 20% or more on many cabling products.
Based on most experts' predictions, product delays and price increases are likely to continue into the first half of 2022, for technology equipment as well as other resources for office construction and tenant improvements.
We've been frustrated with the delays, and with having to tell clients that video cameras and control panels, for example, will be unavailable for months, or that warranty repairs will take months instead of weeks.
It's as unbelievable to us as it is to you!
Our engineers and project managers are in constant contact with suppliers and manufacturers, seeking the best available products and prices to fulfill your project and service needs.
At Integrated Building Systems, we've always been advocates of early technology planning so that we can deliver your project on time and on budget. Setting realistic expectations is more critical now than ever.
That's why we are encouraging you to contact us now to begin conversations about your 2022 plans. We're available to meet virtually or in-person.
We value our partnership with you, and we look forward to helping you create technology solutions that make your building smarter and help you communicate better.
Sincerely,
Chip Chapman, President, Integrated Building Systems
