Anita Rymer joined the Integrated Building Systems team as an Account Executive in 2018, full of enthusiasm for helping customers achieve their technology goals. In an interview from early into her tenure at the firm, she said, “Our team has a long history of being a trusted, local resource and that’s an important legacy to continue.”
Over the past six years, Anita has become that trusted resource for many clients and partners. She has been especially instrumental in educating general contractors on Emergency Responder Radio Systems (ERRS).
In celebration of her retirement at the end of July, Anita sat down to reflect on her time at Integrated Building Systems.
What was your journey to get to Integrated Building Systems?
I knew about the company well before I came to work here through networking. I was invited to the Integrated Building Systems “Buckeye Bash” event where the OSU Alumni Band played in 2017. I really felt like I clicked with the team and the guests.
When I started looking for a new job, I knew I wanted to join a smaller company focused on Central Ohio businesses because that was my strongest network. I really wanted to be a contributor to a company and not just another cog in the wheel.
I noticed that [Integrated Building Systems President] Chip had looked at my LinkedIn profile and I called him right away (laughs). From the feeling I had from previous interactions, I knew that was exactly the type of company I wanted to work for: a small, family-owned business with a caring attitude. And I think Chip and Rebecca Chapman, who hired me, have a lot of what I call, “grace;” compassion and acceptance.
From my first interview, I felt the team respected what I brought to the table. And I also got the sense that I could learn something here, and that I wouldn’t be belittled if I didn’t know something at first. I enjoyed the company of the employees I met, and as I came on board, their willingness to help.
What are some highlights from your time at the company?
I think in general, my highlights have been going out to meet with clients who I really enjoy. I’ve been known for popping into offices with donuts! And visiting general contractors, sitting with them, learning about their families, learning about their businesses, and how we could work to support each other.
I have also loved chatting with my colleagues here in the office. A lot of people here have a good sense of humor and are easy to talk to.
And I like how the company is run on EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System). Part of EOS, our quarterly all-staff meetings, have been a highlight. They are really educational and fun, with a lot of employee recognition. I’m glad I get to attend one more on my last day working here!
What are you most looking forward to in retirement?
Sleep! I love to sleep in.
But in terms of my days in my retirement, I am looking forward to becoming a docent at the Columbus Zoo. I think it will be great to be around the animals and get to continue to chat with a variety of people.
I’m also getting ready to move into a new house that my husband and I have been building. That is taking up a lot of time, and I’m excited to be able to focus on it.
If you could give one message to your clients, what would it be?
Of all the jobs I’ve had, this has been my favorite with getting to know people not just on a business level, but getting to know them personally. I’ll miss working with them!
And a note from the President…
On the topic of Anita’s retirement, Integrated Building Systems President Chip Chapman says, “I remember from the time we interviewed Anita thinking she had a lot of energy and determination, and she told us then she wanted Integrated Building Systems to be where she retired. I’m not sure she will ever “really retire” but she has been highly successful, a great team player and we will all certainly miss her smile and enthusiasm for helping our clients get the technology they need to improve their businesses.”
Congratulations, Anita! We will miss you.
