3 Things to Know About Video Wall Investments

In our TechTalk video series, our experts discuss how to create smarter office buildings using technology. In this edition, Senior Technology Engineer Eric Evans discusses the 3 things you need to know when planning to invest in a video wall.

Watch the video and get the summary below.

As Eric explains in this video, companies typically consider video walls when they are looking for a more effective way to get their messaging across. Video walls can have many purposes, from using them for meetings, to serve as highly visible digital signage, or even to rent them out as part of community or event spaces.

How do you know if a video wall is worth your investment? Here are 3 things to consider:

1. Understand your goals for the investment

Think about what you want to achieve with a video wall. Getting more eyes on your content? Better clarity at a distance? To make an impact on visitors? Keep your goal in mind when considering which video wall will give you the best return on investment.

LED arrays or panels are the most expensive option for a video wall. But before you think it is prohibitive, it may still be worth investigating – costs are continuing to come down, especially for ultra-fine pitch screens.

There are other options to create a video wall effect for less money, like an array of LCD displays. Designing a video wall using LCD TVs with thin frames can create the look you are after with minimal disruption to the content on screen.

2. Think about who will manage the wall

Before investing in a video wall, you should consider how you will manage the content you want to display on it.

Will your marketing team create custom content for the video wall? Will it function as digital signage, pulling from internal sources? Or will it pull from the internet, showing things like web pages, the weather, or time?

3. Brainstorm the options for customization

Think about where you want to place the video wall, and if there is any creative way to install it to create a bigger impact for viewers.

Video walls can be comprised of unique layouts of LCD screens or an LED curtain for a visual splash. Changing the shape of your canvas changes the content you might display.
